Atticus Noble, the admiral of the Imperium, and his people set base in the village while they extract resources and terrorise the citizens. As the villagers come to terms with the vulture that circles them, Kora, a villager of unknown origin, emerges as a beacon of hope.
Plot Summary
The history starts when Admiral Noble arrives at the village of Veldt. He confronts Sindri, the leader of the villagers, to acquire an unused surplus of grain, for the Imperium plans on marching against Devra and Darrian Bloodaxe. Sindri refuses claiming that the villagers have needs of their own, but one of the farmers named Gunnar blurts out something. In his zealous demeanor, Noble kills Sindri with ease, and leaves a demand that would cause the villagers to starve, with a promise that he will return to the village in ten weeks. He proceeds to leave a few soldiers and a robot named Jimmy, to aid with the harvest.
Upon seeing that soldiers were trying to harm Sam, a villager of the same farming district, Kora intervenes.
Kora eliminates the threat with the help of Aris, a soldier confused over the tactics deployed by the Imperium, and Jimmy, who manages to hack his own system. Being cognizant of the danger posed by Noble’s arrival, she advises the villagers to prepare for defense. Kora and Gunnar set out to find warriors who will join the cause. During the travels, Kora explains how she was a soldier of the Imperium. After the commander Balisarius destroyed her home planet, she was adopted and raised as a soldier. She served as the bodyguard to mother world princess Issa. Kora was forced to abandon the Imperium when Balisarius assassinated Issa and her entire family and took command.
In Port Providence, they meet Kai the smuggler who shows them possible allies – Tarak, a former criminal bonded with the legendary creature bennu, and Nemesis, a cyborg swordswoman with a vendetta. The group then tracks down General Titus, whom they find in a gladiator ring, where the exiled officer of the Imperium is fighting. Though Titus is hesitant to join, Kora’s appeal to his sense of pride and honor moves him and he reluctantly agrees. With everyone in the group assembled, the next objective is to track down Bloodaxe rebels.
Darrian Bloodaxe agrees to help protect the village, but his sister, Devra, doubts that they can prevail against Noble’s powerful war machine.
Before the clash starts, Betrayer Kai double-crosses the group, disclosing their location to Noble for the price on their heads. A conflict begins in which Darrian and other friends lose their lives, but Korra kills Noble. The remaining members go back to Veldt to prepare for the inevitable assault from the Imperium. The truth is that Noble has been brought back from death by Balisarius, who is giving him orders to smash the insurgents and take Kora alive.
